Live Long and Prosper: A newbie's guide to longevity clinics

Sherry Lim has made an appointment at a clinic — but she isn’t sick.
The 48-year-old beauty entrepreneur is in good health by most standards, but she’s not waiting for a problem to arise. Instead, she’s joining a growing number of professionals in Singapore turning to longevity clinics—not to treat illness, but to optimise performance and slow biological aging.
Once the domain of white male tech founders like Peter Diamandis and Bryan Johnson, the longevity space now sees more Asians embracing the science of living not just longer, but better.
In 2013, fewer than 100 longevity-focused clinics existed worldwide. Today, that number has surged past 3,000 — a tenfold increase that signals just how mainstream healthspan optimisation has become.
A new wave of longevity clinics is emerging across Asia, blending cutting-edge diagnostics with personalised, data-driven coaching to help clients take the reins of their aging journey.
But what exactly goes on inside a longevity clinic? Who are they for? And are they worth the growing buzz or hefty price tag?
Here’s your beginner’s guide to longevity clinics — and what to expect when you walk through the door.

Clinics of the Future
Stepping into a longevity clinic, you immediately sense this isn’t your typical GP’s office.
With plush lounges, soft lighting, as well as herbal teas and health supplements at the ready, the atmosphere feels spa-like — but the technology and testing protocols are more akin to a sports performance centre.
You’ll still find familiar tests — blood panels, hormone profiles, and DEXA scans — that are similar to those in premium health-screening centres like Orchard MedSuites or Fullerton Health.
But longevity clinics take it a step further.
Expect VO₂ max testing, quantitative EEG (qEEG) brain mapping, microbiome profiling, cognitive resilience testing — and often AI-assisted health tracking services that spots changes early on and enables proactive optimisation.
Beyond the machines, what really sets longevity clinics apart is the multi-disciplinary team. In-house doctors may include internal-medicine specialists, sports physicians, sleep experts, psychologists, and neurocognitive therapists. In modular setups, these professionals may operate via partner networks, but coordination is designed to be seamless.
The goal? Create a full picture of your biological age, stress resilience, and long-term risks—and guide you toward optimising those markers through lifestyle changes and bespoke supplements beyond what’s available at the pharmacy.
A Peek Into My First Longevity Session
I signed up for Chi Longevity’s Physical Performance Package (S$3,800). Beforehand, I completed detailed online forms covering everything from lifestyle habits to mental well‑being. I was also asked to fast (minimal water allowed) for blood work and to dress comfortably for physical assessments.
The clinic is inside the Four Seasons Hotel Singapore. On arrival, I filled an extra form listing my current supplements. An assistant then ushered me to a private room to stow belongings and change if needed.
First, a body-composition test via bioelectrical impedance gave insights on body fat, muscle mass, hydration, lean mass, and BMI. Next, I provided four vials of blood to test for biomarkers like vitamin D — turns out, despite plenty of sun exposure, I was deficient.
The AGE Reader followed. This device scans glycation levels in the skin to estimate sugar-related collagen damage compared to your age cohort.
Then came grip strength and spirometry (lung capacity). Both of my scores fell short — a wake-up call given their importance in longevity metrics.
The final test was the VO₂ max assessment, often considered the gold standard for healthspan prediction. A technician fitted me with a snug mask, Bane-style, to create the airtight seal needed for precise airflow and oxygen measurements, and strapped me with electrodes to monitor my heart rate.

Under the watchful eye of Dr Oh, the in-house physician, I climbed onto the stationary bike and began pedalling as the resistance gradually increased. By the time I hit 82 percent of my maximum lung capacity, I was spent. The results appeared instantly, and Dr Oh walked me through my results, which was satisfactory.
While some tests delivered immediate feedback, the bloodwork took around a week. To my surprise, I received results in just two days, followed by an invitation for a follow-up consult, either in person or via Zoom.
The Verdict
The experience was smooth and efficient — no long waits, well under two hours total. Dr. Oh was both knowledgable and thorough, walking me through every result and patiently answering all my questions.
Key takeaways? Despite ample sun exposure, I had low vitamin D and underwhelming muscle mass. Dr. Oh prescribed a structured strength-training plan and a clinically formulated vitamin D supplement (available at the clinic). He emphasised that sunlight alone isn’t sufficient and provided dosage guidance that felt thoughtful, not salesy.

He also recommended a six‑month follow-up — four retests — priced at just over S$800. Since then, I’ve woven strength training into my weekly routine—and yes, I now sunbathe (responsibly) on my balcony.
From a value perspective, Chi Longevity offers a premium experience but what you’re paying for isn’t just lab results. You gain access to a longevity-savvy physician who tailors a plan that fits your long-term health goals.
For tighter budgets, consider splitting the difference: get essential tests like bloodwork and BMI screening at a standard centre, then use a longevity clinic for specialised diagnostics like VO₂ max or cognitive assessments.
Would I go again? Absolutely. At this stage, investing in my health feels far more meaningful than splurging on another designer bag.
